Capital City Pride Cancels Pride Fest 2020
Des Moines, IA – To our community and loved ones: After careful consideration, the Capital City Pride Board (CCP) of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel the postponed events of Pride Fest 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we are deeply disappointed to not celebrate in person, the health and safety of our community is our top priority. This decision was not made lightly and comes after weeks of consultation with community partners and participants.
Pride goes beyond an in-person gathering. It’s who we are and how we love. Coming together in pride provides us healing, hope, and connection, which are necessary in this deeply challenging time. Many of us have experienced isolation and know the power of seeing others who live and love like we do, whether it be for the first or fiftieth time. Pride demonstrates our resilient strength when we join together and support one another.
Capital City Pride remains committed to finding new ways to connect and celebrate with our community during this Pride month. This is why we re-imagined Pride Fest through a series of virtual events in the coming weeks and thank you to our sponsors who have made it possible. Mark your calendars and save the date for Pride Fest 2021 (June 11-13, 2021). Please stay safe and healthy. For more information visit https://www.capitalcitypride.org/.
